REFLECTION

In reflecting on my DPI final project, I realized how crucial it was to integrate the knowledge and skills I’ve learned from Photoshop (PS) and expand upon them through independent exploration. By seeking out new tutorial videos online, I was able to delve deeper into advanced techniques, such as gradient mapping and the liquify effect, both of which became pivotal in enhancing my work. Step by step, I meticulously added effects to refine my project, paying close attention to every detail.

This process highlighted a key insight: design is an ever-evolving field that requires a commitment to continuous learning and exploration. The discovery of good references and innovative ideas is fundamental to crafting compelling designs. By looking outward for inspiration, I found myself unlocking creative possibilities that elevated my work.

Furthermore, during the animation phase of the project, I learned the importance of paying careful attention to details. Ensuring smooth transitions, particularly at the beginning and end of the animation, was essential for creating a seamless infinite loop effect. This taught me that even minor elements can have a significant impact on the overall quality of a design.

In conclusion, this project was a valuable experience that deepened my understanding of design’s dynamic nature. It reinforced the necessity of ongoing learning, attention to detail, and the power of innovative thinking. These lessons will undoubtedly shape my approach to future creative endeavors.

FINAL WORK

PROGRESS

PART 1: IDEA DEVELOPMENT (WEEK 10)

1. Write a biography about yourself

INTRO

My name is Tang Lilin, and I’m from China. I am on a journey, chasing the dreams that inspire me to keep moving forward. I embrace life with passion and a yearning for freedom. As a first-semester bachelor’s degree student, the heavy workload can be overwhelming at times, but I face each challenge with determination and resilience.

PARAGRAPH 1

What is your passion?

When I need to unwind, I listen to music and spend time cuddling with my cats and dogs. I love hanging out with friends and exploring new experiences. On days when I feel low, I lift my spirits with a delicious meal—it’s my way of finding comfort and joy in the little things.

PARAGRAPH 2

What’s motivate you to achieve your dream?

My drive comes from a desire for freedom and the ambition to become the best version of myself. I dream of living a life where I can make my own choices, pursue what I love, and explore the world without limits.

SUMMARY

How do you want to visualize your dream into an artwork?

Using surrealism, I will present a version of myself in my work that embodies the strong and ideal self I dream of—a self capable of overcoming challenges and possessing great wisdom. I hope to be radiant, positive, and uplifting. Therefore, I will use vibrant colors in my work to express the better and brighter version of myself that I aspire to be.

PART 1: IDEA DEVELOPMENT (WEEK 10)

2. Write a statement about your work

INTRO

I aim to create a piece that combines surrealism with dreamlike visuals, using artistic expression to convey the immense energy and potential hidden within each individual. This work invites viewers to return to themselves when faced with challenges, explore the microcosm within, and radiate their unique brilliance.

PARAGRAPH 1

What is the concept behind it?

Core Concept: Blooming the Inner Universe
Each person is their own god, possessing infinite potential and strength.
When faced with difficulties and challenges, we should look inward and draw wisdom and energy from our inner universe.
Through spiritual awakening and self-transcendence, we can break boundaries and create a radiant future of our own.

PARAGRAPH 2

What is the message you want people to understand it?

Everyone is a shining star: Even when confronted with the pressures of university or life, we each hold immense inner strength. By daring to break through, we can radiate our unique light.

Embrace challenges and growth: Challenges are not to be feared; they are stepping stones on the path to growth. Facing them with courage makes us stronger.

Discover your limitless potential: Like the vast universe, each person’s inner self is filled with endless possibilities. By believing in ourselves and boldly pursuing our dreams, we can become a better version of ourselves.

PART 3: FINAL POSTER (WEEK 12)

FINAL POSTER

TITLE: Bloom to You

ARTIST STATEMENT:

This artwork conveys the concept of "unleashing potential and radiating self-worth," inviting everyone to embrace their inner strength, face life’s challenges with courage, and shine in their own unique way. The figure in the composition symbolizes personal growth and transformation, while the floating planets, clouds, and halos represent boundless potential and a free-spirited mind, encouraging people to never underestimate the power they hold within.

Each element in the poster represents a piece of this concept:

The Figure (myself):
As the focal point of the piece, I used a half-body photograph, surrealistically processed to give the appearance of melting. My eyes are obscured by dreamy clouds and planets, metaphorically suggesting the transcendence of present difficulties and reality.

Starry Mask:
The mask blurs the boundary between the self and the universe, symbolizing that we are our own microcosm. It also represents the importance of having a broad, expansive vision, as limitless as the universe itself.

Geometric Shapes (Circle + Triangle):
Halo elements are incorporated to evoke a sense of divinity, making the figure appear godlike. These shapes symbolize spiritual elevation and awakening. The halo behind the figure represents hope and energy, while the triangular geometry adds a sense of stability, signifying inner wisdom and steadfast belief.

PART 3: FINAL POSTER (WEEK 12)

FINAL POSTER

TITLE: Bloom to You

ARTIST STATEMENT:

Rectangular Background:
The blurred, color-blended background conveys the sensation of consciousness melting and merging with the starry sky. The flowing colors symbolize the gradual blurring of reality's boundaries, reminding us to break conventions, escape constraints, and pursue a better version of ourselves.

Floating Planets:
The planets symbolize infinite possibilities and cosmic potential. Each person’s inner self is as vast as the universe, filled with untapped power and capability.

Color Palette:

  • Dreamlike Gradient: The gradient of pink, blue, and purple symbolizes hope, dreams, and freedom, creating a romantic and surreal atmosphere.

  • Vivid Hues: Bright colors convey an uplifting energy, expressing a desire to break through and transform.

Through the combination of surrealism and dreamlike elements, this artwork weaves reality and idealism together, portraying my vision of a "better, stronger self." It is not only a personal expression of my journey toward realizing my dreams but also an invitation for viewers to rediscover their inner strength and value, encouraging them to boldly pursue the dreams in their hearts.
