Exercise 1 - Audio Dubbing

In the class of Week 3, Mr. Martin divided us into groups of 4-5 people to perform the production task: divide the given video into scenes one by one.

In the class, we evenly divided the tasks, and I completed the 17-23s scene description. Sacha & Shema completed the 1-17s scene description.


Later, I completed the remaining scene descriptions in the sheet. Then, I found the original clips in Everything Everywhere All at Once, listened to them frame by frame, and wrote down the sound effects used in each scene in the table. Then I started looking for suitable sound effects on the Free sound website & PIXABAY website. If I didn't find suitable sound effects on these two websites, I dubbed them myself, such as the sound of holding the mop, the sound of pulling clothes, and the sound of the mop rubbing.


Then dub the dialog on the phone.




Then, import all the sound effects into Premier Pro. Follow Mr. Martin's tutorial video to add sound tracks to make production more convenient. Put all the sound effects in the right place and cut them to the right place.

Change the voices of Waymond and Office Lady.

Exercise 2 - Sound Shaping


My native dialect is Chongqing dialect, so I chose some distinctive short sentences to record the sounds.
文字为“—你咧个人哪个楞个咧个呢？”
“—我楞个嘞个又啷个了嘛？你啷个要说我楞个嘞个也？我楞个嘞个把你哪个了嘛！我楞个嘞个到底啷个了嘛？”

翻译：“—你这个人怎么这样子？”
“—我这样又怎么了呢？你怎么要说我这么这样呢？我这么这样又把你怎么了呢？我这么这样到底怎么了吗？”

I followed Mr. Martin's guidance in the online class of Week 8 and explored the sounds step by step. Shown below is the effect I made for each sound.

Week 5
 In class, I showed my work to Mr. Martin, who said that it was very well done. But there are still some details that can be modified.
1. The ambient music cannot be present from the beginning to the end of the video, because this exercise mainly needs to focus on the sound effect.
2. The ambient sound effect in the second half is relatively low, so the volume can be increased appropriately.

REFLECTION

Experience
This is my first time to make audio dubbing, which is strange and interesting. At first, when I heard that we need to make dubbing, I thought we need to use some objects to create sounds for dubbing. Then I found that I can find suitable sound effects on the Internet. The whole work is tedious. First, you need to split each shot and scene in the video, and then identify the sound effect needed in each shot. Then find the right one on various free sound effect websites, which is the most painful process for me because it requires great patience. After finding it, put it into the sound track, and the rest of the things will be much easier.It is fun for sound shaping

Observation/Finding
In this process, I learned the production method. No matter what the final result of my production is, I think the most important thing is that I learned the production process and steps of audio dubbing. It looks ordinary, but the video of just a few dozen seconds contains dozens of sound effects. This made me realize that an excellent video is not only based on the interpretation of the lens and the character, but also the assistance of sound is also crucial, which is a tedious detail.
