In the video, Mr. Fauzi teaches us how to create animated text in After Effects (AE) by using curves and shape transformations.

LECTURE
Week 10: Intro to After Effects

Adobe After Effects is a 2.5D animation software used for animation, visual effects, and motion graphics. It’s widely applied in film, TV, and web video creation during the post-production phase. With its ability to layer and manipulate video, images, and effects, After Effects enables seamless compositing and animation.

Motion graphics in After Effects involve animating vector and rasterized art, often integrating photos and videos. It works in tandem with tools like Photoshop and Illustrator, where layers are prepped and organized for animation. Notably, After Effects links to media files rather than embedding them.

INSTRUCTION
1. Download the PSD composition below:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1etLC49TGicn1FdLF4KRla_GzQJjFqksp/view?usp=sharing

2. Import the W10_ANIMATE.psd into Adobe After Effects.

3. Create a composition setting 1080 px (Width) x 1920 px (Height), Duration 15 second

4. Create a keyframe animation to the layers using Position (P), Scale (S) & Masking path.

5. Render output: Quicktime (.MOV) or .MP4

6. Upload your exercise into your Youtube Channel.

7. Update your progress and video to your E-Portfolio blog.

8. Attach your E-Portfolio link on this Submission.

Based on Mr. Fauzi's explanation, I downloaded the W10 ANIMATE files and imported them into the AE software following the steps.

First, create the entrance animation for each part.

The entrance sequence is:
circle-2 -> circle-1 -> b1 & b2 -> fish -> people

  • circle-2 & circle-1: Enter with a rotating motion and continue rotating after entering.
  • b1 & b2: Enter simultaneously from the top and bottom, respectively, with opacity transitioning from 0 to 100. When they reach their positions in the composition, the opacity should be at 100.
  • fish: Remain in place while entering with a rotating motion. Opacity transitions from 0 to 100, and scale transitions from 0 to 100.
  • people: Slide in while changing opacity.

After all parts have entered, continue creating animations by adding variations in rotation position, scale, and opacity. While working on the animation, I noticed that symmetry is applied in the composition. Therefore, I grouped the elements in the scene as follows: circle-2 & circle-1, b1 & b2, and fish & people. For each group's animations, the motions are either symmetrical or follow the same direction.

Next, here’s the animation breakdown for each element:

group:circle-2 & circle-1

Continuously rotate, adjust the size, and vary the opacity to create a dynamic interplay between motion and stillness.

Group:b1 & b2

Move up and down while slightly adjusting the angle of the buildings to create a shaking effect. Incorporate rotation to align with the motion of other elements in the composition.

Change the position, with opacity varying according to the position change. This creates a dynamic relationship between the fish and people elements, where one appears larger and brighter, while the other is smaller and darker.
