Illustration and Visual Narrative
Task 1 - Vormator Challenge
LIST
Week 1
In the first lesson, Mr. Hafiz briefly introduced the main tasks
of the course of Illustration and Visual Narrative. We created Blogger
link and Google Drive for follow-up learning tasks.
Week 2
In the lecture video of Task 1 that Mr. Hafiz gave us, I learned how to
use pen tool trace the vormator shapes in Adobe Illustration. However,
using Pen Tool to trace shapes takes long time and requires tracing
outlines highly precisely. So Mr. Hafiz taught us to use Curvature to
add details on basic shapes.

What's more, Mr. Hafiz introduced us a game named as Bezier to practice
the Pen Tool. After a brief practice, trace the car's outline

Week 3
In this lesson, Mr. Hafiz introduced us Golden Ratio, a fundamental
conception that often used in logo or character designs. For instance,
Both of the logos of Apple and Twitter used the Golden Ratio to design
in order to make it more unified and advanced.
Mr. Hafiz taught us to trace the Adidas logo using the Golden Ratio
method.

TASK 1 - Vormator Challenge
Fig 8 . Final Vormator
we are asked to make our own character using the shapes that we have
traced. We can only create our own character using these 8 shapes without
distorting or avoiding emergence of new shapes.
Conception of My Vormator Character:
I created my own character combing with sheep and monster to have the
gentleness and cuteness of a sheep. With the feature of the monster, I hope
it has a strong appearance to face difficulties. It means that I gently
embrace the beauty and troubles in life, and face all the difficulties that
life brings me with strength.
Inspiration

Fig 10. Inspiration 2
I want my character to be gentle and strong. When I understood the whole
graphics, I thought that these graphics are very suitable for making
monsters. I started searching online and saw that the appearance of sheep is
very suitable for my idea, so I chose to combine sheep and monster.

Details:
I wanted the character's tail to be the highlight of the whole design. I
wanted to make it special, so I combined the drop and tentacles to form the
tail hair.

At the same time, I combined drop and Cobra to create the details on the
horns. Also, add the shape Wurst to make the horn suitable for the
character.

For Some Efforts:

I designed the character dragon before, but used patchier to make a new
graphic, which didn't meet the regulations, so I remade my new
design
FINAL WORK
REFLECTION
This was my first time working on an assignment related to IVN, and I
found it somewhat confusing. On one hand, I wasn’t very familiar with
the requirements and limitations, which led to some missteps along the
way. The restriction of using only three colors increased the
difficulty, and we were also limited to using only Vormator shapes,
which added another layer of challenge.
On the other hand, I wasn’t entirely comfortable with some of the tools
in Adobe Illustrator , which made the process a bit less smooth.
However, despite these challenges, I found the creative process
enjoyable. Experimenting with shapes and colors within these constraints
pushed me to think more critically and creatively. It was a valuable
learning experience that helped me better understand both the software
and the principles of IVN.
